After moving from London in 1993, I rented a studio looking onto the sea and it became the subject matter of my work. This enabled me to combine my love of swimming with my painting. I use photographs and video taken with an underwater camera and make flip books as reference points for my paintings. This reflects my desire to immerse myself in the subject. The paintings describe the changing light through the seasons and more recently involve some the man-made structures and coastal terrain. Using glazes and layers of oil paint, i create textures and translucent effects that represent the elemental relationship between land sea and sky.
